Can you help us identify ‘Salcombe man’?
You can help identify a man whose body was recovered from the English Channel; 46 miles South West of Salcombe, Devon on the 23rd September 2021. We are referring to him as Salcombe Man.
Salcombe Man was a white European medium build male between 5’7’’ and 5’9’’ tall and between 20 and 40 years of age. He had a white crown on his right-lower molar tooth. He does not have any scars, tattoos or distinguishing marks.
He is estimated to have entered the water 7 to 10 days prior to being found: between the 13th and 17th of September 2021. It is likely that he entered the water on the southern coast of Cornwall, from Land’s End up to and including Plymouth, Devon.
He was found wearing:
- ZCCO 3mm full length neoprene wetsuit with a diagonal zip – size medium
- Slinx neoprene gloves – size medium
- Slinx neoprene socks
- Unbranded neoprene shoes – size 9
Things to think about:
Have you lost touch with someone that could have travelled to the South of Cornwall in September 2021?
Have you lost touch with anyone that may have had an interest in water sports?
Were you in Cornwall in September 2021 and remember someone of this description?

Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could hold the vital clues that will help us find his family and / or friends.

How you can help
Unfortunately we are unable to provide a facial reconstruction of this man and therefore need to rely on the little information we have. Therefore, it is essential that the public share with us any information they might remember about this man based on the elements we have.
He is likely to have gone missing between the 10th and 17th of September 2021. This was around the time the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced England’s winter “plan B” to be used under “unsustainable pressure” which included measures such as face masks.
Were you in Cornwall around this time? Do you know someone who was?
We believe that this man was involved in doing water sport but that he may not have had much experience in this field. He may have had a particular interest in surfing, paddleboarding, coasteering (sea level traversing) or sea swimming because of the type of clothing he was wearing.
