Dean Jones

Dr. Dean Jones; Cert. Ed. BA Ed (hons), Msc, DCrimJ

Dean Jones is a retired Detective Superintendent and Divisional police commander having served 30 years with Hampshire police, most within the CID. He oversaw major crime including homicide investigation and latterly Director of Intelligence in charge of covert policing assets and operational crime and drugs squads. He finished his police career as Temporary Chief Superintendent in charge of policing on the Isle of Wight.

Dean sat on the National ACPO steering group on Investigative Interviewing and developed one of the first Tactical Interview Managers courses. An experienced Hostage and suicide intervention negotiator. Dean spent a number of years in police investigative training and led the team at the National Crime Faculty which developed the SIO Development program and the Initial Crime Investigators Development Program.  

Since retirement from policing, he has worked in Northern Ireland as an SIO on the Historical Enquiry Team and is now the Senior Forensic Pathology Manager overseeing the provision of forensic pathology services to police forces in England and Wales. 

He developed and delivers the 'Expert Witness' course for non-forensic organ specific and paediatric pathologists in order to encourage engagement with police cases and has written the current police policy on dealing with sudden and unexpected death, and Dealing with the Scenes of Unexpected Death. 

Dean is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Portsmouth, and a Doctor of Criminal Justice.
