Locate International & University Partnerships

Collaborating for Social Impact through Research and Investigation

About Locate International

Locate International is a UK-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to advancing investigations into long-term missing persons and unidentified remains. Our mission is to work collaboratively with communities, academic institutions, law enforcement, and families to provide answers and justice in unresolved cases.

Our Approach to University Collaboration

Universities are essential partners in our work. We collaborate with institutions across the UK and beyond, connecting academic expertise with real-world investigations. These partnerships offer powerful opportunities for research, education, and social impact.

How Universities Get Involved

1. Specialist Project Partnerships

Each university brings unique strengths—from forensic science and criminology to data analysis and digital mapping. We invite institutions to contribute to specific investigations based on their areas of expertise, ensuring the right knowledge is applied to the right case.

2. Research Submissions & Support

Through our Call for Research Proposals initiative, universities can propose new research projects that support our mission. This is an opportunity for academics and students to develop innovative approaches and directly contribute to solving cold cases.

3. Student Placement Programme

Each year, we welcome a cohort of university students for their placement year. During their time with us, students gain hands-on experience across all areas of Locate International’s work—from case research and analysis to community engagement and operational support. This immersive programme helps develop professional skills while making a meaningful difference in real investigations.
