If You Are Missing

Guidance and confidential contact options for individuals who are missing. Whatever your circumstances, you will be treated with care, discretion, and respect. You are in control of how — and whether — you make contact.

If you are missing

If you’re reading this, you may be missing — or you may believe that an appeal, investigation, or piece of coverage relates to you.

People go missing for many reasons. Life changes. Relationships break down. Circumstances become unsafe or overwhelming. Sometimes leaving is the only way someone can cope at that moment.

You are not in trouble for being missing.

This page explains your options, your rights, and how we can support you — whether you want to make contact, stay private, or simply understand what is happening.

People become missing for many different reasons, and every situation deserves to be treated with care and respect. You are a person - with a history, a present, and choices about your future.

If contacting us feels like the right step, we will meet you with respect, confidentiality, and care.

You can reach us at: info@locate.international

You are not alone — and you are not obliged to do anything you are not ready for.

If you are in immediate danger or need urgent help, please contact the emergency services on 999 (UK), or your local emergency number if you are elsewhere.

If you are safe right now, you are in control of what happens next.

What we cannot do

We are not an emergency service and cannot replace police or safeguarding agencies.

We cannot:

  • Provide immediate emergency protection

  • Help someone under the age of 16 without involving statutory services

  • Assist with evading law enforcement or legal responsibilities

If we are not the right organisation to help, we will explain why and, where possible, signpost appropriate support.

FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions to help you understand our process and how we work.

  • You can contact Locate International directly and discreetly at:

    info@locate.international

    We can talk confidentially about:

    • What has been shared publicly or with the police

    • Whether an appeal or investigation relates to you

    • What options are available to you

    • What contact (if any) you would like us to make on your behalf

You do not need to give us every detail, and you do not need to explain why you left.

    In many cases, we can:

    • Confirm to police or family that you are safe

    • Pass on a message without sharing your location

    • Help reduce or stop public appeals where appropriate

You remain in control of what information is shared.

  • We understand that not everyone wants to re-establish contact, and that decision is respected.

If you choose to get in touch with us, we can:

    • Act as an intermediary so your wishes are clearly understood

    • Help ensure your safety is confirmed without revealing personal details

    • Support conversations with the police that protect your privacy

Our role is not to force reunions or disclosures, but to help reduce harm and unnecessary distress for everyone involved — including you.

  • It can be unsettling or distressing to see your name, image, or story shared publicly.

If you believe that an appeal or investigation led by Locate International relates to you, please contact us.

    We can:

    • Explain what information is being shared and why

    • Discuss whether changes can be made

    • Help bring the situation to a safe and respectful resolution

You will be treated with dignity, discretion, and care.

  • Locate International works in partnership with police forces across England and Wales under a formal Data Processing Contract (DPC).

This allows police to share missing and unidentified person cases with us securely so we can assist with independent investigations and specialist support.

If you make contact with us:

    • We will explain what this means clearly

    • We will not act without your knowledge

    • We will always prioritise safety and proportionality
