Ian Brownhill

Ian Brownhill is a barrister at 39 Essex Chambers in London, recognised as one of the country’s leading specialists in mental capacity, medical treatment disputes, and public, human rights, and regulatory law. Alongside his practice, Ian sits as a Recorder in the Family Court and serves as His Majesty’s Assistant Coroner for Kent and Medway.

In 2023, Ian was named Junior of the Year for Court of Protection and Community Care at the Legal 500 Bar Awards, reflecting his expertise and commitment to the field. His experience in the Court of Protection includes extensive work on cases involving individuals at risk of absconding from their care settings, adding a crucial perspective to his understanding of vulnerability and safeguarding.
