Become an Investigation Manager at Locate International

When a missing person’s case goes cold or an unidentified individual remains unnamed, families are left in a state of suspended grief. At Locate International, we believe that no case is beyond hope and no person should ever be forgotten. As an entirely volunteer-powered charity, our work relies on dedicated individuals coming together to re-examine evidence, uncover new leads, and bring long-overdue answers to families.

At the heart of our operations are our Investigation Teams. To ensure these teams remain focused, supported, and motivated, we are seeking Investigation Managers (IMs) to join our senior leadership structure.

What Does an Investigation Manager Do?

Investigation Managers support and supervise Locate’s Investigation Teams during cold case investigations involving missing and unidentified people.

This role goes far beyond administration. IMs serve as a critical bridge between team leadership, specialist resources, and senior operations. By providing guidance, operational oversight, and sound judgment, Investigation Managers enable Team Leaders to maintain momentum, address complex case challenges, and deliver high-quality investigative reports for families and police authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team & Case Management Support: Guide Team Leaders in overseeing case progress, stepping in directly when complex or urgent issues arise.

  • Resource & Team Allocation: Conduct regular case reviews, ensure appropriate team structuring and motivation, and collaborate with the Head of Investigations (HoI) and Case Manager to allocate new investigators and cases.

  • Liaison & Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between Investigation Teams and internal/external stakeholders, including the Head of Investigations, Executive Team, police partners, and specialist units.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify overarching themes, operational bottlenecks, and training needs across multiple teams.

Volunteer Role Description & Details

  • Role Title: Investigation Manager (Volunteer)

  • Reporting To: Head of Investigations (HoI)

  • Location: Remote (UK & International applicants welcome)

  • Remuneration: Unpaid / Voluntary (Locate International operates entirely with a volunteer team)

Requirements & Skills:

  • Investigative Knowledge: Sound understanding of cold case investigative techniques.

  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record of supporting and supervising teams.

  • Empathy & Sound Judgement: Ability to offer emotional and practical support to volunteers while managing difficult or delicate operational situations.

  • Communication & Technical Skills: Highly computer literate, reliable, responsive, and detail-oriented.

  • Availability: Able to regularly attend a weekly online team meeting every Tuesday at 7:00 PM UK time.

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum Commitment: Approx. 6 hours per week (inclusive of the Tuesday evening meeting).

  • Flexibility Required: Because investigations are dynamic and urgent issues or complex case demands can arise, this role requires flexibility beyond fixed hours when extra oversight is needed.
